The strategic meaning of Taiwan in the actual geopolitical context

In the current article I want to talk about Taiwan, because the actual situation is not good at all and unfortunately, the future doesn’t seem like a bright one.

At the time being, all the diplomacy and all the efforts are directed to the ukrainean conflict. Ukraine, which untill now has been a neutral country in all the chapters, in the present has a very difficult position because it is not a NATO or European Union country, but the majority of its people has repeated many times the fact that they conssider themselfs being a european one, not russian. We have the case of Petro Porosenko, former president of Ukraine, who at the beginning was pro-european, but after Vladimir Putin pressions and promises in order to help Ukraine with very avantajously loans for developing the country, he switched the side. But the ukrainean people has shown the wish and desire to be part of the European project, they forced Porosenko to leave the power. From now on,  the russians became more and more aggressive until they start the war in the end.

Taiwan, which is the most advanced country in the world and is developing chips principaly for the US military or for companies like Apple, is in a difficult possition because of the geographical location and of the common past with China. This country wants to become in the near future the number one power in economy and military fields. The Chinese Communist Party has a difficult relation with the US because of the commercial war and not only. And we know very well how aggressive are the americans and the chinese people in declarations, it’s like a game and which side wants to intimidate the other one and to look stronger.

The areas like Taiwan always had a difficult possition in the past and this is a kind of situation which gives me many reasons to think about the romanian-hungarian conflict, when Hungary claims the teritory of Ardeal being itself, and the Romanian claims opposite. During the history we had many examples like this and we need to learn how to manage this type of conflict.

With an attitude like this, in which neither one side nor the other side doesn’t want to make concessions, it’s a probably way to start a conflict. Moreover, with all the technology that we have now, we have all the necessary tools to end up the modern world, as we know it, and lose everything in one second and go back into the stone age.

Donald Trump has approached a very farm attitude beside China and the consequences became more and more accentuated. That situation ended up with the Huawei interdiction to use Android or Google services in the USA. After that, both countries applied sanctions for the companies, and they attacked with every occasion.

After the US’ elections in 2020, which gave Joe Biden the victory, the situation became more unstable since the Democratic Party had not any intentention to give up claims in the Pacific Ocean.

Taiwan is not a simple island or a simple place, it represents an area where China and US have many interests and therefore it is a war of diplomacy and intimidation, which in that moment it is in a very dangerous level because both countries want to maintain influences over the Taiwan. The Communist Party is very strict and very ambitious and it wants to develop power, to make a new sphere of influence with the russians.

In my opinion, the world and its alliances are based on interests, not for common goods, or common development. History taught us the lessons of the past in order to improve our skills and our behaviour. This world, untill now, had two world wars in which everything was for the expansions and for the influences, and we know very well how they ended up with the Versailles Treaty when Germany was declared responsable for the war and led the messeaures to deposed Germany of some of its lands, the economy and hyperinflation were in the very hard point, because the umployment rate was very, very high, and also the power of the deutsche mark was very low. In 1923 a bread reached to cost  1 500 000 mark. Germany in its history was a very powerfull country which had aspirational ways to rule the Europe, and therefore, after this situation with Traty of Versailles, the people of Germany was very upset because their leader and also for the rest of the world to attacked their country so hard.

After that, we saw what it means to don’t have a good and educated class of diplomacy, and that thing gives Hitler the chance to rise his power and drag the humanity into a chaos.

Right now, we all are the witnesses of a “Cold War” beetwen democracy and totalitarism. I want to put in balance Russia with China, Iran, North Korea, maybe India, and the other side we have the Europe, America, Canada, Australia etc.

The Taiwan conflict I think it started in a colaborated way beetwen China and Russia, because for China it is better to make pressions in this moment when all the efforts go to Ukraine.

People who represent international diplomacy, in my opinion, dosen’t have the ability to understand several factors, both Russia and China have aspirational ideas to conquer new teritory and to be more important on the international stage.

We live moments of pain and instability and several crises we awaiting to the corner, in that context both the americans and the europeans need to develop a multicultural institution with the best of the best in external diplomacy and with their help to try to defuse the world.

The path of the verbal attack like Joe Biden did with Xi Jinping, it is not the right way, that way goes to ambition to prove who is stronger, and who is right.

I think, with the help of the European Institutions, we must go to start a way of callaboration between all of the countries/power poles, we need to sit and descuss all the problems and by concessions it is possible to fiind the path to a peacefull world.

Also, by all the opportunities which exist in this moment we must be more open-minded and to encourage the students and young professionals to develop a passion for politics and in this way to make them to be involved in these matters.

For me, politics and diplomacy represent an opportunity to try to make the world a better place. If we will continue in that way to attack and to start new wars, we forget what it’s really matter, the world, we have only one world and we live together and we must learn to live together in peace and dedication.

A very difficult situation about the climate changes put us to the test of maturity to see what we could do to prevent a natural disaster, and also, we need to think about the immigration, about land sinks (Jakarta, for exemple), and so many other things.

Taiwan represents a situation and the world passes through the maturity test and we need to find peacefull solutions and to become more united and more stronger together or we can continue to threaten or attack each other.

As a conclussion, I want to say that I want very much to contribute to a peacefull world and we must empathize and understand that we need to stop as soon as possible the way propagandistic paths which divide the world.
